Michael Sutherland, OAM Scholarship for Humanities, 2022
Introduction
Mr Michael Sutherland, OAM, the former MLA for Mount Lawley and the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly was the Deputy Lord Mayor of the City of Perth and a solicitor prior to entering State Parliament in 2008. Mr Sutherland was a teacher of Humanities in South Africa prior to studying law. He has a great interest in law, history and civics. He wishes to offer a scholarship in the area of humanities.
Mount Lawley Senior High School is a school that has served its community for over 50 years. It has an esteemed reputation in the community and counts amongst its alumni high achievers such as, civic leaders, academics, professionals, business leaders and professional sports men and women. The school's leadership and community strongly support student success and academic rigour.
Michael Sutherland, OAM Scholarship for Humanities
In accordance with the school's Values and focus on academic excellence, a scholarship is offered to students entering Years 7 and 11 in 2022. To be awarded the Year 11 scholarship, a student must be enrolled in at least one senior secondary Humanities and Social Sciences Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) course.
The students awarded one of the scholarships will be expected to maintain high standards of behaviour, attend school regularly and achieve acceptable results.

The scholarship may be expended on course contributions or charges or on school uniform items (from the School's Uniform provider).
Selection Criteria
The criteria for selecting the winner of the scholarships is as follows:
- Academic Achievement, especially in Humanities and Social Sciences.
- Interest in Humanities and Social Sciences.
Families in financial need will be a consideration if students can not be separated on other issues.
Students applying for the scholarship are to submit the following:
- Application Form.
- Copy of last school report.
- Statement from the student addressing the selection criteria.
