Physical & Health Education
Health and Physical Education at Mount Lawley Senior High School focuses on developing healthy, active and positive contributors to the school community.
The Health and Physical Education team at Mount Lawley Senior High School aims to provide a variety of learning experiences that develop healthy, active, positive contributors to the Mount Lawley community. Our programs are designed with a holistic vision where all students are given the opportunity to develop physical skills and abilities along with resilience, teamwork and leadership within all learning area contexts.
Health and Physical Education is located with-in a shared facility with ECU Mount Lawley Sport and Fitness Centre. Mount Lawley HPE has access to a dual court indoor gymnasium and opportunities throughout the year to access a Multi-Purpose Fitness room, along with outdoor tennis courts, basketball and netball courts, two oval spaces and access to Hamer Park. Strong links to community recreation spaces including Nedlands Yacht Club, Mount Lawley Golf and Tennis Clubs allow unique and diverse learning experiences for Mount Lawley students.
Learning area contexts:
Physical Education
Includes two sessions per week, covering invasion, net/wall and striking games as well as fitness and athletics. The aim of the sessions is to develop healthy, active members of the community through the development of physical ability as well as leadership, organisation and team work skills.
Health
Is delivered across the school from years 7 – 10 in one session per week. Through an engaging curriculum, Health endeavours to develop our student's ability to access, evaluate and apply appropriate information and resources to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for their own and others' health and wellbeing across their lifespan.
Outdoor Education
Is available as an elective in Year 10 and as a General course in Years 11 and 12. Outdoor Education aims to develop resilience, leadership and organisational skills through planning and participating in camps and expeditions in a variety of environments. Contexts include snorkelling, trekking, orienteering, power boating, sailing, canoeing and roping.

ATAR
Physical Education Studies: Year 11 and 12
Practical Contexts: Badminton and Touch Rugby with links to professional coaches.
Physical Education Studies contributes to the development of students' physical, social and emotional growth. The Physical Education Studies General course provides students with opportunities to understand and improve performance through the integration of theoretical concepts and practical activities.
Outdoor Education Studies: Year 11 and 12
Practical Contexts: Roping, Snorkelling, Orienteering, Camping and Boating.
Through interaction with the natural world, the Outdoor Education ATAR course aims to develop an understanding of our relationships with the environment, others and ourselves, and ultimately contribute towards a sustainable world. The integrated approach within this course allows for practical activities, theoretical concepts, and relationship with the environment to be incorporated into a meaningful program of learning. It provides students with an opportunity to develop essential life skills and physical activity skills, an opportunity to develop a comprehensive understanding of the environment and develop a positive relationship with nature. The course aims to develop self-awareness and leadership through opportunities to plan for, and facilitate, outdoor experiences.
VET
Certificate II Sport Coaching: Year 11 and 12
This course is delivered over a two-year period in partnership with YMCA. This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in assisting senior coaches in the planning and implementation of instruction for a range of sports.
Extra-curricular sport and carnivals
In addition to a comprehensive Health and Physical Education program, Mount Lawley SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL offers a variety of extra-curricular opportunities for students including the House and Interschool Swimming and Athletics events, Year 7 – 10 Zone Lightning Carnivals as well as representative teams in Cricket, Soccer, Basketball, AFL, Netball, Hockey, Volleyball, Cross Country and Orienteering to name a few.
