The competition was of such a high standard that it took the adjudicators quite a while to decide on the ultimate winner. Suu Kyi competed against students from Rossmoyne Senior High School, Nagle Catholic College and Mandurah Catholic College.

The venue was Mandurah Baptist College's Theatre. Suu Kyi was 'miked' up with an ear piece, and presented an effortless and confident speech on "the benefits of increasing racial diversity within the community and reducing racial discrimination". She commanded the stage and it felt like we were listening to a TEDtalk!

Suu Kyi is the first Mount Lawley Senior High School student to win at this level.
