Australian Chinese Language Champion
The Hanyuqiao or Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition is an annual worldwide Chinese Mandarin speaking and cultural performance competition.
It consists of a written test in Chinese, a speech on the topic of "My Chinese Dream" and a cultural performance.
The 2015 Chinese Hanyuqiao competition, as it is known, was organized by the Confucius Institute of WA for secondary school students, and was held at the University of WA on June 6.
William, Year 11, came first overall in the competition and travelled to Adelaide on June 18 to compete with students from all Australia.
It is very pleasing to report that William is now the Australian champion, and he will represent his country in the World final to be held in Beijing later this year.
This is the second time in four years that a Mount Lawley SHS has been the national champion and is again an exemplar of the strength of the school's program in Mandarin.
Congratulations to Ms Tee and Confucius Institute tutor, Mr Yu, for assisting William - Good luck in Beijing!
祝你好运 William!
