Volleyball Review 2012
The volleyball program has been a busy and eventful one this year with school competitions, weekend competitions and the culmination of all students hard work in the National Schools Cup Competition in Melbourne this December.
Since the beginning of term one student's have been training hard with their coaches to develop their skill, strategies and game play to make them competitive amongst other schools in the state and the nation.
This year as a school we have competed in the beach volleyball competition, school sport competition and the Volleyball WA State School Cup Competition.
Our results in these were excellent with our school gaining medals in each competition (2 gold and 2 silver in beach, silver in school sport and a gold in the state schools cup).
This was an excellent effort from our students with all their hard work paying off.
Western Australian Volleyball League
For the first time this year our students attending the National Schools Cup Competition participated in the Western Australian Volleyball League (WAVL).
For this to occur we initiated a link with Edith Cowan University's Chequers Volleyball Club.
Through this we were able to further develop our skills and understanding of the sport in a game play setting.
Every Sunday for 2 terms students competed against other clubs and schools in the state with our year 9 girls winning gold and our year 8 girls winning silver in the under 16 division.
Through this tournament we also had year 8 girl Elysse win the trophy for Most Valuable Player in the under 16 division.
National Schools Cup Competition (Melbourne)
All the hard work in training and competitions throughout the year was in preparation for the Melbourne National Schools Cup competition.
We took 5 teams to the tournament from years 8 and 9 and due to the increase in numbers of teams this year the competition started on Sunday afternoon going through to the following Friday afternoon.
Students played at 3 amazing venues: Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, State Volleyball Centre and the Netball and Hockey Stadium where there were up to 25 courts in the one centre.
The atmosphere was amazing with the teams having some good wins and challenging games throughout the week.
Our best-placed team was the year 8 girls who made it through to the championship pool to finish 12th out of 24 teams in their pool.
One of the year 8 boys teams also did well finishing 13th in their division against some quality opposition.
All other teams participated consistently over the week with all team winning at least a set or game over the duration.
Thanks
I wish to thank all students for their hard work over the year and also the coaches, teachers and parents involved who gave up their time.
