Gavin Freeman

While at Mount Lawley, Gavin was Prefect, served on the Year 12 Common Room Committee , the Ball Committee and represented the school in basketball and swimming. His favourite expression was apparently, "Miss, you've marked this wrong."

After leaving school, Gavin gained a Bachelor of Psychology and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Australia, a Masters of Psychology from the University of Southern Queensland and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Deakin University.

His first career was a Sport Psychologiust at the Australian Institute of Sport and he now runs his own Crisis Management Consultancy.

He was the team psychologist for the Australian Archery Team at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, as well as for teams at the Sydney Paralympics, and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turrino.

He was also the team psychologist for a team at the 2003 Rugby World Cup, and has worked with athletes from the NBA, the WNBA and the PGA.

Gavin used his psychology background to start up a boutique Crisis Management Consulting Company in which he works with large corporates, supporting their ability to respond to an incident and ensure their organisation can continue operating should a crisis present itself.

He also works closely with executives around the world enhancing their capability to perform under pressure and ultimately becoming Business Olympians.

Gavin's first book, 'The Business Olympian' was released in 2008, and shows the corporate world how they can learn from the mental toughness of elite athletes.

Gavin's second book, 'Just Stop Motivating Me' was published in 2016, and explores an alternative insight into motivation and how we need to adapt depending on the environment / culture we are operating in.

He has been a regular contributor as a Psychologist to radio and television shows, including Channel 7's 'Sunrise' for many years.


Gavin was inducted as a Lawley Legend in 2018.
