Trevor Jenkins left school in 1960, having completed Year 10. Since his early departure, he has become a much loved Perth media personality with a multifaceted career spanning more than half a century.

Trevor is best known for his work in sports commentary, working on radio stations 6IX and 6PR, as well as in television for Channels 7 and 9. His longest association, however, was with the ABC, where Trevor has worked for over 30 years.

He has covered a range of sports over his career, including racing, harness racing, cricket and football (at both WAFL and AFL levels.) Trevor has called 12 WAFL Grand Finals, broadcast 13 Perth Cups, hosted 15 consecutive Sandover Medal award nights and cohosted the TAB Radio Breakfast show for 5 years.

Some of his most memorable experiences include broadcasting the first win by the West Coast Eagles at the MCG, the English Derby at Epsom for a national audience, broadcasting Test cricket and One Day Internationals from the WACA and his first Perth Cup call in1974.

He has won awards including Best Sports Commentator and two Clear Speaking Awards for television presenting.

Trevor has also been a successful compere at events for many sporting, community and corporate groups including as MC for the Lords Taverners Test Match breakfast for twenty years, and The Western Derby Breakfast for the S.A.S. for sixteen years. He has also hosted the Sheraton Perth WA Wine Awards.

Trevor set up his own communications training company in 1992 and has offered hands on training in voice production and presentation skills. He is also a conference facilitator, MC and after dinner speaker.

He has re-established a connection with Mount Lawley Senior High School over recent years, compering a number of significant events, including a visit to the school by fellow alumni David Helfgott.

In 2016, Trevor was made an honorary graduate of Mount Lawley Senior High School.


Trevor was inducted as a Lawley Legend in 2018.
