Languages & Arts Festival

The Languages and Arts Festival aims to feature a mixed program of languages and arts events that includes musical performances, international foods, cultural activities, street theatre and entertainment. The events are designed to be free, however, some events may be separately ticketed space and audience capacity may be limited.

The Language and Arts Festival is largely organised by the Program Coordinator of Languages (Louise Chapman) and the Program Coordinator of the Arts (Lynda Kuntyj). Together, they handle the organisation, logistics, marketing and collaborations with alumni and cross sectoral participation from parent support groups, as well as community organisations. Business students are involved in organising trading stalls each year. The intention is to encompass a wide range of immersive experiences and to revel in the diverse acts spanning across the arts, languages and cultural fields. The art forms and entertainment also include active sports and movement including circus skills, which promote fine and gross motor development. In collaboration with the Certificate II in Business, stalls are held providing students with real life opportunity to trade. In addition, the Certificate II Live Production and Services are afforded experience in bumping in and bumping out a real-life arts event. Furthermore, the event allows the Language and Arts Captains to actively participate, lead and contribute to the event.

During the planning phases of the festival, departments and individual staff are encouraged to consider their own creative ability or draw from their heritage to contribute activities to provide greater opportunity for involvement by the school community, further adding to the spectacle and festive opportunity. The Languages and Arts Festival is designed to enable students to contribute and demonstrate their leadership capacities. It is a collaborative event that embraces the cross-cultural enrichment of the arts and languages together with a focus on whole school involvement.
