Student Services

At Mount Lawley Senior High School, student wellbeing is foundational to success.

Our Student Services programs are intentionally designed to nurture resilience, leadership, connection and personal growth. Through a coordinated framework of support, we ensure that every student is known, supported and prepared for the future.

Our Programs

Student Services programs are organised across four key pillars that support every student’s growth, wellbeing and future success.

 

Wellbeing & Support

Supporting students’ physical, emotional and mental wellbeing so they are ready to learn and thrive.

Programs included:

  • Foodbank Breakfast Program
  • Insain Visionworks™ Program
  • Student Support & Attendance

We provide practical and preventative wellbeing initiatives that ensure students feel supported, connected and equipped to manage challenges.

Leadership & Recognition

Encouraging student voice, celebrating achievement and building personal responsibility.

Programs included:

  • Student Council - (Student Councillors, House Captains and Prefects)
  • Colours Program
  • House Championship System

We foster leadership, teamwork and a strong sense of belonging through recognition and student representation

Community & Service

Connecting students to the wider community and promoting civic responsibility.

Programs included:

  • Bush Ranger Cadets
  • Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial Service
  • Community Service Program
  • ANZAC Day Services
  • Relay for Life (Cancer Council of WA)
  • Fundraising activities for charitable organisations (including Telethon, R U OK?)

Students are encouraged to contribute meaningfully to the community and develop respect, service and connection beyond the classroom.

Supporting students at key milestones and preparing them for future success.

  • Transition Programs (Primary → High School → Senior School → Post-School)

We guide students through important transitions and equip them with the skills and confidence needed for life beyond school.

Our Student Services Team

Our Student Services Team is made up of experienced professionals dedicated to supporting student wellbeing, engagement and success across all year levels.

Program Coordinator – Student Services

Lou Kirkby

Lou coordinates the overall operation of the Student Services Team and provides leadership across wellbeing, behaviour and student engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the Student Services Team

  • Monitoring student behaviour, wellbeing, uniform and attendance (Years 9–12)

  • Working with students, parents and teachers to address and improve behaviour

  • Overseeing school assemblies and special events

  • Coordinating Student Council

  • Liaising with inter-agency networks and external support services

Program Coordinator – Inclusive Education

Tim Breadmore

Tim leads inclusive education practices across the school, ensuring students with disabilities and learning difficulties are supported to achieve their educational goals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Consulting and collaborating with teachers, parents and external agencies

  • Coordinating programs supporting students with special needs

  • Monitoring, reviewing and adjusting Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

  • Supporting teachers in implementing effective adjustments and inclusive strategies

  • Coordinating visiting teachers and external agency support

Student Support & Attendance

The Student Support and Attendance team works proactively with students and families to promote engagement and regular attendance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing social, emotional and educational support

  • Monitoring student attendance across all year levels

  • Working with parents, students and external agencies

  • Exploring alternative education, training or employment pathways where required

School Chaplain

Andrew Paul

The School Chaplain provides pastoral care and wellbeing support to students, staff and families. Engagement with chaplaincy services is voluntary.

Andrew supports the social, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing of the school community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing counselling and wellbeing support

  • Supporting students experiencing grief, family breakdown or crisis

  • Acting as an advocate for students and staff

  • Facilitating connections with community organisations and support networks

  • Assisting students at educational risk

Andrew also coordinates:

  • Bush Ranger Cadets

  • Leadership development experiences

  • Lawley Alumni initiatives

Andrew is employed by YouthCARE and supported through community funding and donations. He has served as School Chaplain at Mount Lawley Senior High School since 1992.

School Psychologist

Lucy Willers - Middle School (Thursday)

The School Psychologist works with students, parents and staff to support learning, wellbeing and positive development.

Departmental Support
  • Assists with Students at Educational Risk (SAER) processes

  • Contributes to wellbeing and engagement initiatives

  • Supports inclusive education and behaviour management practices

  • Advises on child protection and crisis management

Whole School Support
  • Assists in planning and delivering programs such as study skills and transition

  • Contributes to policy development in wellbeing and crisis management

Individual Support
  • Conducts psychological assessments

  • Provides counselling for personal, social and emotional concerns

  • Works with parents to support student wellbeing

  • Consults with external health and welfare agencies

Community Health Nurse

Available: Monday - Wednesday

The Community Health Nurse supports the physical and emotional wellbeing of students and promotes positive health practices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Promoting healthy lifestyle behaviours

  • Providing physical and emotional health support

  • Assisting in crisis situations

  • Conducting health screening and monitoring

  • Collaborating with parents and community health services

  • Integrating health education within the school context

Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO)

Annette Quartermaine

Available: Monday, Wednesday & Friday

The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer supports Aboriginal students in achieving positive educational outcomes within a culturally inclusive environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting Aboriginal students academically and socially

  • Assisting teachers in delivering planned education programs

  • Promoting culturally responsive practices

  • Acting as a liaison between families, community and the school

Community Service Coordinator

The Community Service Coordinator oversees opportunities for students to engage meaningfully with the wider community.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the Community Support Program

  • Organising community service opportunities for Years 10–12

  • Monitoring student participation in community service initiatives
