Specialist Visual & Performing Arts Program (SVAPA)

The Specialist Visual and Performing Arts (SVAPA) Program at Mount Lawley Senior High School is a unique three-year specialist program designed for creative and talented students with a passion for the Arts.

Since its inception, the program has earned a strong reputation for excellence, providing students with immersive and enriching experiences across a range of visual and performing arts disciplines.

Led by specialist teachers, SVAPA offers a differentiated Arts curriculum that encourages students to explore ideas, develop creative and critical thinking skills, collaborate with like-minded peers, and engage with contemporary and emerging arts practices. Students undertake specialist learning in the Arts while continuing their studies in core learning areas including English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The program is designed to nurture creativity, confidence and artistic expression while preparing students for future pathways in the creative industries and beyond.

  • Duration: Years 7–9
  • Applications open: Year 6
  • Selection process: Audition and portfolio submission in Music, Drama and Visual Art
  • Places available: 32 students per year
  • Entry point: Year 7

2026 Parent Information Night

The 2026 Parent Information Night will be held on Monday 7th April from 7–9pm in the Tricycle Theatre. Bookings via Trybooking are essential.

Application Stages

Stage 1 – Parent Information Evening

In Term 1, the school hosts an information evening for prospective families, providing an overview of the SVAPA Program, application requirements and selection process.

Stage 2 – Application Submission

Students submit an Application of Interest by the advertised closing date. Applicants will then receive details of their workshop and audition schedules.

2026 Applications Close: Friday 2 May 2025

Stage 3 – Portfolio & Auditions

Applicants participate in the selection process, including:

  • Portfolio submission
  • Drama workshop
  • Visual Art workshop
  • Music audition

Stage 4 – Offers Released

Applicants are notified of the outcome of their application during Term 2.

Stage 5 – Welcome Evening

In Term 4, successful applicants and their families are invited to attend a welcome evening to meet fellow students, parents and SVAPA staff prior to commencing the program.
